Santa Monica, CA - Nov 24, 2010 - Widely published author and veteran actress of film, stage and television, Diane Sherry Case, announces the release of her novel, Elephant Milk. Case’s quirky and rambunctious narrative of a young heroine’s pursuit of her lost lover through a world of drum rolls, lions and Mayan glyphs draws clever parallels between the colorful world of the circus and the notoriously wild Hollywood film industry of the nineteen seventies. Sean’s adventure begins with her driving the lime green dune buggy that a friend of hers traded from Elvis Presley for angel dust. She has just watched her best friend shoot up heroin while Keith Richards has nodded out behind her on the couch. After parking in Coldwater Canyon and lighting a joint to calm down, Sean discovers a pile of black clothes still soaked in blood. The Tate murders? It’s 1969 and things are getting intense for Sean. Her first boyfriend has taken off for Mexico and even though she has no idea where in that vast country he is, she decides she must follow her heart. She joins a traveling circus and has knives thrown at her for a living, faces a loaded machine gun in the hands of her rival, and, still undeterred from finding her lover, goes deep into the Mayan jungle just in time to view a total eclipse from the back of her favorite elephant. While Case’s narrative continues to pleasantly startle readers with its twists and frequently surreal turns, the novelist also shows the sexual abuse of the nineteen-seventies which was especially prevalent in the film industry. Her keen portrayal of the ease with which women could be taken advantage of at that time gives readers today a comparison point to measure the greater legal protection and the increased awareness ofthe rights that women now enjoy.
